I don't think ArenaNet realizes the success they created with the guranteed gold and money, once per character chests, they added in Elona for the Holiday update. Those chests gave players a reason to play each campaign.

Many players were even rushing characters though the Nightfall Campaign for the chests!

Now, since Gaile confirmed that the chests were staying, wouldn't it be logical to introduce the Chest mechanic into Tyria and Cantha?

Currently, the quality of treasure chest drops in Elona are proportional to the area they drop in. Therefore, near-max gold drops would appear in pre-Southern Shiverpeaks in Tyria and Shing Jea Island in Cantha. The true, sexy golds would appear in areas such as the Ring of Fire islands in Tyria and the Faction territories in Cantha.

Obviously, gems would be removed from the loot table in those areas.

And no, it won't devastate the economy, as some herald. Elona currently generates about 10k in pure cash from Treasure Chests. Considering that good items cost 200k-300k alone, it won't cause any inflation.

It's exciting to search for treasure and to see what you find!
